Bahrain's open data portal has revealed that aluminum oxide topped the Kingdom's import list in terms of value for the period from January to November 2024. The total value of aluminum oxide imports during this period reached 461 million dinars.
The data highlights significant fluctuations in monthly imports. In January, Bahrain imported over 320,000 tons of aluminum oxide from Australia, valued at over 45 million dinars.
February saw imports of approximately 150,000 tons (over 21 million dinars), while March imports reached 326,000 tons (over 47 million dinars). April imports totaled 218,000 tons (over 32 million dinars), and May saw an increase to 265,000 tons (over 39 million dinars).
June imports decreased to 176,000 tons (over 26 million dinars), before a substantial rise in July to 322,000 tons (over 59 million dinars). August imports were 260,000 tons (50 million dinars), followed by a slight decrease in September to 235,000 tons (over 46 million dinars). October imports amounted to 234,000 tons (47 million dinars), and November imports reached 214,000 tons (49 million dinars).
It's worth noting that Aluminum oxide's versatility contributes to this high demand. Its primary use is in aluminum smelting as a raw material for aluminum metal production, a crucial component in numerous manufacturing processes.
Its high melting point makes it ideal for refractory bricks and other heat-resistant materials used in high-temperature industrial processes.
Additionally, aluminum oxide is a common abrasive in sandpaper, grinding wheels, and polishing compounds, essential for various manufacturing and construction applications.
Finally, it finds use in the production of advanced ceramics, catalysts, and other specialised materials within diverse industries.
