Bahrain's national holidays, Christmas, and New Year's Eve have boosted the demand for flowers by 50%, according to Hassan Abdullah AlMadhoob, a veteran florist with more than a decade of experience. Al Madhub reported to the Daily Tribune a significant increase in sales since December 15th, with shops adorned with vibrant blooms to celebrate the festive season.
However, this year's demand shows a 40% decrease compared to last year. AlMadhoob attributes this fluctuation to varying yearly circumstances. "Sometimes these holidays coincide with other financial commitments or events that compete for people's spending," he explained, adding that personal or social events might also impact gift budgets.
Red and white roses remain customer favourites, symbolising Bahrain's national colours and representing love and affection. These colors hold deep cultural significance in Bahrain, representing joy and warmth, especially during celebrations.
The demand for luxury flower arrangements, specially designed for the holidays, has also increased, reflecting a desire for unique gifts. "Customers are seeking innovative designs that complement the national celebrations and add an aesthetic touch to festivities," he stressed.
Online ordering and delivery have become increasingly popular, a trend that began during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. "This offers convenience, allowing customers to select arrangements from the comfort of their homes and have them delivered directly to friends and family. This trend has broadened the customer base, offering greater access to diverse floral options and easier price comparisons."
AlMadhoob concluded, "Despite the convenience of online shopping, the personal experience of visiting a flower shop still holds its own charm. Customers can appreciate the fragrant aromas and vibrant colors before making their purchase."
