The Northern Municipal Council held its last session in 2024, addressing several key proposals concerning the development of green spaces and public facilities. The council approved the construction of a new park in Block 1204, Hamad Town, a proposal championed by Jasim Mohamed Hejris, representative of the eighth constituency.
Hejris emphasised the critical need for additional green spaces in the area, particularly for children and the elderly, highlighting the current shortage of such amenities. He noted that the land designated for the park is already owned by the Northern Municipality.
The council also addressed a proposal from Mohamed Al Doseri, representative of the third constituency, regarding the development of Al Budaiya Park in Block 555, Al Budaiya area. However, this proposal faced opposition from the Deputy Chairperson, Zaina Jasim, and Zainab Al Derazi, representative of the 12th constituency. They cited a previous letter indicating the park's inclusion in the 2025 budget, arguing that a new proposal was unnecessary.
Instead, they requested a letter be sent to the Undersecretary of Municipalities confirming the project's inclusion in the 2025 plans, referencing a previous letter from 2021 estimating the project cost at 12,000 Bahraini dinars. Ms Jasim emphasised the existence of prior correspondence confirming the park's inclusion in the 2025 budget, rendering the current proposal redundant.
Proposals for Playground Public Parking Rejected
In other matters, the council reviewed responses from the Minister of Municipalities Affairs, Wael Mubarak, regarding several proposals. A proposal to construct a playground on plot number 10045738 in Block 1012, Al Hamala, was rejected. The Ministry recommended retaining the land for future development as a park, aligning with the surrounding residential area's needs.
Similarly, a proposal to allocate plot number 05032146 in Block 581, Salman Town, for public parking was also rejected. The Ministry advocated for maintaining the plot as a park, given Salman Town's modern planning, which already incorporates sufficient public services and amenities. The decision reflects the Ministry's commitment to providing adequate green spaces in newly developed residential areas.
