The Ministry of Labour revealed that Bahrain's unemployment rate is 6.3% and announced its aim to employ 20,000 Bahrainis and train 10,000 job seekers annually. This announcement was made in response to an inquiry from MP Abdulwahed Qarata.
The Ministry cited the National Plan for Labour Market Regulation (2023-2026) as the driving force behind these efforts. This plan aims to align education with market demands, strengthen partnerships with the private sector, attract domestic and foreign investment to create more high-quality job opportunities, and enhance oversight, regulation, and labor laws.
To support job seekers, the Ministry encourages registration and offers unemployment benefits: 150 Bahraini dinars per month for non-university graduates and 200 Bahraini dinars for university graduates for nine months (for first-time job seekers or those with less than 12 months of work experience). Those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own may receive up to 60% of their previous salary for nine months, capped at 1000 BD per month.
