Following a royal decree granting a public holiday on Sunday, January 5, 2025, for the Bahrain national football team's Gulf Cup final against Oman in Kuwait, MP Mohammed Janahi has proposed extending the holiday to the private sector.
The decree, issued by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in implementation from directives from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, aims to allow widespread support for the national team.
Janahi's proposal comes as several major Bahraini companies have already announced they will grant their employees a paid day off on January 5th. The MP's suggestion seeks to encourage other businesses to follow suit, ensuring all citizens have the opportunity to watch and support the team in this crucial match. He emphasised that this would further enhance national unity and pride.
MP Janahi highlighted the positive impact of a unified holiday for both public and private sectors in boosting national morale and allowing families, where some members work in the public and others in the private sector, to come together to cheer on Bahrain. "Many private sector employees had expressed their desire for a similar holiday, enabling them to support the national team alongside their families," he stated.
