Ms Pearl Wasif, Research Regulatory Affairs Manager at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain, has been recognised as one of the Top 12 finalists in the 4th Edition of the prestigious Lamea National Programme.
Inspired by the vision of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, the Lamea National Programme is dedicated to cultivating a generation of distinguished leaders capable of advancing Bahrain’s comprehensive development agenda and was recognised as the Best Arab Government Project to Empower Young People in November 2024.
Ms Wasif and her team were recognised for their excellent work in crafting a policy aimed at improving mental health services in Bahrain in collaboration with a diverse range of esteemed organisations, including the Primary Healthcare Centres, Government hospitals, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the WHO Country Office in Bahrain, and the United Nations Population Fund, by earning third place.
Lessons
Reflecting on her experience, Ms Wasif highlighted two key lessons from the programme’s module on policy-making and strategic thinking: the critical importance of cross-sector collaboration to address complex societal challenges, and the transformative impact a well-designed health policy can have on the health and well-being of a population.
She expressed her enthusiasm for advancing initiatives that integrate technology and innovation into public services, alongside projects focused on social impact and community development.
Commenting on Ms Wasif’s achievement, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, stated: “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ms Pearl Wasif on this remarkable accomplishment and her exemplary leadership.
