An Asian businessman uncovered a BD2,400 scam after discovering that trademark certificates provided by a Bahraini man in his fifties were forged.
The defendant, who confessed in court, admitted to using a Ministry of Industry and Commerce template to produce fraudulent documents as part of the scheme.
The businessman had paid the defendant via an e-payment app in 2022, believing the money would cover the registration of three trademarks with the ministry.
Shortly after, the defendant handed him printed certificates that appeared to confirm the trademarks were officially registered.
However, the businessman’s suspicions were raised, leading him to check the certificates directly with the ministry. He soon found out they were bogus and alerted the authorities.
