A proposal to restrict heavy vehicles on King Hamad Highway during peak hours has received preliminary backing from the Ministry of Interior.
The ministry stated that its response is initial, with a more detailed official stance to be provided in the government’s memorandum.
If passed, the proposal would prohibit heavy vehicles from using King Hamad Highway between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM, and between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The proposal, put forward by MP Lulwa Al Rumaihi, aims to regulate the movement of trucks and heavy vehicles, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. Al Rumaihi argues that the measure would improve road safety, as heavy vehicles— often transporting materials like rocks and industrial goods—pose a significant danger to other road users.
The Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee has reviewed and recommended the proposal for approval. If implemented, the restriction is expected to improve traffic flow and greatly enhance safety for commuters during peak times.
