The Northern Governorate Municipality has started distributing sensor-equipped waste containers, municipal sources confirmed to the Daily Tribune.
According to the sources, 60 waste smart containers will be distributed in the first stage, with plans to replace all the existing containers in the Governorate. "Block 460 in the Northern Governorate was the first one to receive such smart containers," the source revealed.
Commenting on the positive aspects of deploying such containers, the source added: "Our system allows for real-time monitoring and tracking of all waste containers, providing detailed data on their location, fill levels, and overall distribution across the service area. This data enables efficient waste collection routes, optimised resource allocation, and proactive maintenance scheduling."
A December report in the Daily Tribune indicated that the Southern Governorate Municipality is implementing a comprehensive upgrade to its waste management system, leveraging GPS technology to enhance efficiency and improve the cleanliness of residential areas."
The initiative involves the replacement of all existing metal waste containers with modern, eco-friendly alternatives, and a crucial element of this upgrade is the integration of GPS tracking into each new containers.
