Civil Defence is developing a centralised system to analyse incident patterns, aiming to sharpen future planning and improve emergency responses.

The system will help the Directorate respond more effectively, with the broader goal of enhancing safety across the board. This forward-thinking approach coincides with the Director-General’s appointment as head of the International Civil Protection Organisation — a rare honour for Bahrain and a testament to its growing influence in global safety efforts.

Emergency calls

Locally, the Directorate handled over 16,000 emergency calls in the first two months of 2024, compared to 14,542 in 2023.

The cases ranged from fires in homes and industrial facilities to severe car accidents, waterlogging, and clearing fallen trees and other hazards.

The push to involve the community has also gained momentum.

A volunteer programme has seen its first group of 52 participants graduate.

Volunteers

These volunteers are now assisting with firefighting operations, inspections, and emergency preparedness, strengthening local readiness and adding an extra layer of support to the Directorate’s efforts.

Safety inspections have ramped up.

By November 2024, the Directorate had conducted more than 2,500 checks on restaurants, hotels, and commercial properties, up from just over 2,000 in 2023.
