Bahrain Signs Groundbreaking Agreement to Implement Unified Health Information System

In a significant step toward enhancing Bahrain’s healthcare sector, a cooperation agreement was signed today between the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), represented by the Royal Medical Services, and the Supreme Council for Health (SCH) to implement the Health Information System Project (RMS-Hope). The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the SCH; H.E. Lieutenant General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Nuaimi, Minister of Defence Affairs; H.E. Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan, Minister of Health; and several senior officers of the Bahrain Defence Force.

The RMS-Hope project aims to unify and enhance the quality and efficiency of Bahrain's government healthcare sector through a comprehensive and integrated system.

Strategic Vision for Healthcare

H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa highlighted the ongoing progress in Bahrain’s healthcare sector, attributing it to the unwavering support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and the diligent follow-up by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, and Prime Minister.

He emphasized Bahrain's commitment to modernizing its national healthcare system and providing high-quality medical services to all citizens and residents. "This project represents a strategic step to replace the current I-Seha system with a modern platform encompassing all clinical and administrative aspects across hospitals and health centers," he stated.

The implementation will be carried out in phases, starting with primary healthcare centers and support services, and eventually extending to government hospitals. The transition is designed to ensure seamless data integration between systems.

Enhancing Patient Experience and Data Integrity
H.E. Shaikh Mohammed underlined that the collaboration with the Royal Medical Services marks a milestone in achieving synergy between government and military healthcare institutions. The unified system will improve patient experience, ensure data privacy, and facilitate efficient healthcare delivery.

"A unified health information system will significantly enhance care quality, enable instant access to medical records, and improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment delivery," he added.

National Pride and Technological Advancement

H.E. Lieutenant General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Nuaimi affirmed the Ministry of Defence’s dedication to the project, describing it as a reflection of Bahrain's vision for sustainable development in healthcare. He expressed pride in the fact that the system's development involves a substantial contribution from Bahraini talent, showcasing the nation's technical and professional capabilities.

"This innovative system will streamline data transfer between hospitals and health centers, ensuring an improved patient experience while safeguarding data integrity," he said.

Towards Vision 2030 Goals

H.E. Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan emphasized the project's alignment with Bahrain’s Vision 2030. "The new system will provide every citizen and resident with a unified electronic health record, enhancing communication among healthcare providers and ensuring efficient access to medical information," she noted.

Dr. Hasan added that the project represents a leap forward in achieving a sustainable and advanced healthcare system that prioritizes patient well-being and accessibility.

Military Contribution to Healthcare Innovation

Brigadier General Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the Royal Medical Services, highlighted the project's strategic vision. "The RMS-Hope system reflects our commitment to improving healthcare quality and efficiency, aligning with the objectives of Vision 2030," he said.

The project is expected to deliver tangible improvements in healthcare management and contribute to a more sustainable, patient-centered health system in Bahrain.
