As part of the ongoing state visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the Sultanate of Oman, a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Bahrain’s Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Oman’s National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. The agreement aims to enhance the collaborative efforts of both nations in the fight against human trafficking.
The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Badr Albusaidi, Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. This agreement reflects both countries’ shared commitment to combat human trafficking through joint cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building initiatives.
A key focus of the MoU is the exchange of Bahrain’s expertise and experience in addressing human trafficking, including the development of training programs, workshops, and specialized initiatives. It also provides for collaborative research efforts, field visits, and greater access to Bahrain’s Regional Centre of Excellence for Training and Capacity Building in Combating Trafficking in Persons, which will benefit Omani stakeholders involved in the fight against human trafficking.
Nibras Mohammed Talib, CEO of the LMRA and Chairman of Bahrain's National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons (NCCTIP), underscored the importance of strengthening regional and international collaboration in combating transnational crimes like human trafficking. He described the signing of the MoU as a pivotal step in enhancing the partnership between Bahrain and Oman, contributing to social security and the protection of vulnerable individuals in both nations.
Talib also highlighted Bahrain’s notable initiatives in combating human trafficking, including the Expat Protection Centre, which acts as a first responder in identifying human trafficking cases, and the National Referral System, which connects relevant entities for effective coordination. Additionally, the Regional Centre of Excellence in Bahrain serves as the first regional hub dedicated to training practitioners and frontline workers in human trafficking prevention.
The MoU marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking in the region, reinforcing Bahrain and Oman’s commitment to creating a safer and more secure environment for all.
