The High Criminal Court has sentenced a 40-year-old Asian businessman to three years in prison for his involvement in robbing a restaurant owner. The court also ruled that he will be deported upon completing his sentence.

The incident occurred on the night of October 25, 2023, when three unidentified Asian men posed as police officers and confronted the restaurant owner in Manama. Claiming they had received a report accusing him of selling alcohol, they demanded to search his restaurant. When the owner denied the allegations and allowed them to inspect the premises, the men insisted on searching his nearby residence instead.

Accompanying the men to his home, the owner was shocked to encounter the defendant, whom he recognized as someone who owed him money. The owner reported to the Public Prosecution: "He hit me, and they took my money." The group fled with 420 Bahraini dinars.

Security footage from the restaurant corroborated the owner’s account. The video showed the three unidentified men entering and leaving with the owner, while the defendant waited in a car outside. Additional footage captured one of the men meeting the defendant in a dark alley, followed by the defendant entering the alley where the owner was taken before the group returned.

Although the defendant admitted he was the person shown in the footage, he denied knowing the other men. The court, however, found him guilty based on the evidence.

The three unidentified accomplices remain at large, and authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend them.
