Ensuring food security took centre stage as Bahrain and Oman signed a series of agreements during the state visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Oman, at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

A key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bahrain Food Holding Company “Ghithaa,” a subsidiary of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), and Oman Food Investment Holding Company “Nitaj,” a subsidiary of the Oman Investment Authority. The agreement was signed by Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy and Chairman of Mumtalakat, and Sultan Al Habsi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority.

This MoU aims to strengthen food security collaboration between Bahrain and Oman by facilitating the exchange of expertise, promoting best practices, and supporting the development of local goods for regional and international markets. It focuses on sustainability, addressing shared agricultural challenges, and fostering strategic partnerships to drive joint investment and economic growth.

Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa highlighted that the MoU would advance cooperation between Mumtalakat and the Oman Investment Authority, opening up new investment opportunities across multiple sectors.

Climate Challenges

Another important focus of the visit was enhancing cooperation in meteorology. An agreement was signed between Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority to exchange expertise, improve weather systems, and address climate challenges, promoting safety and regional integration.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, underscored Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of HM King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to strengthening strategic ties with Oman. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in meteorology to advance civil aviation, navigation, and sustainable development.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
