The  Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments has confirmed its commitment to utilising electronic means and modern technologies across all its services, stressing its dedication to modernising the judicial system.

This statement came in response to a parliamentary proposal urging the ministry to mandate the use of SMS notifications for citizens regarding all aspects of civil, criminal, and enforcement cases, including travel bans.

Minister Nawaf Al Maawda stated that the proposal's objectives are already being met, stating that citizens and residents can access judgments and decisions in civil cases and enforcement files, including travel ban decisions, through the government's e-services platform.

"The ministry has transitioned to an electronic system, replacing the previous paper-based system," he stated, highlighting  several key regulatory decisions supporting this electronic transition, including Ministerial Decision No. 89 of 2018 concerning the regulation of electronic notifications and its amendments.

"This decision established the use of email and SMS for notifying parties in civil, commercial, criminal, and Sharia court cases.  The ministry has also created a dedicated register for electronic notifications, recording email addresses and contact numbers for individuals and entities, whether provided by the parties involved, registered in contracts, or obtained through correspondence," the minister stressed.

He further indicated the ministry's ongoing efforts to communicate with all individuals involved in legal cases via email and SMS, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

It's worth noting that the proposal was submitted by MPs Ahmed Qarata, Hanan Fardan, Hassan Al Dhaen, and Najeeb Al Kawari.
