Surprising Knockout of Cross as Other Champions Move to Quarterfinals in Bahrain Masters Darts 2025

The Bahrain International Circuit hosted the first day of the 2025 Bahrain Masters Darts Championship, marking the opening round of the World Championship by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). The event, filled with intense competition, saw global champions, top-ranked professionals, and qualifiers from Asia battle it out in the first round.
The Bahrain Masters Darts Championship spans two evenings: the first is dedicated to the qualification rounds, and the second will feature the finals.
The opening night saw a major surprise when Filipino Paolo Nepreda, representing Asia, defeated global champion Rob Cross, securing a spot in tomorrow’s quarterfinals after a dominant 6-3 victory.
The tournament follows a 501-point system per leg, with the first player to win 6 legs emerging as the victor.
In the second preliminary match, world champion Gerwyn Price triumphed over Luke Yin Li, winning 6-3. Meanwhile, Stephen Bunting defeated India’s Nitin Kumar 6-2, and rising star Chris Dobey cruised past Bahrain's Basem Mahmoud with a 6-0 win.
Bahrain’s Abdullah Saeed was also eliminated in the qualifications after a 6-0 loss to world number one Luke Humphries.
In another exciting match, rising star Luke Littler managed to escape the trap set by Filipino Lawrence Eijalan, winning 6-3 after a strong performance by the PDC Asia champion.
Peter Wright also advanced to the next round, defeating Alexis Twilio 6-2. In the final match of the evening, the renowned Nathan Aspinall defeated Chiaowchen Zong 6-3.
The quarterfinals are set to begin at 8:30 PM tomorrow in the iconic Dome Tent at Bahrain International Circuit, expected to be watched by over 90,000 spectators from around the globe.
The first day, dedicated to the qualification rounds, saw a remarkable turnout, with tickets selling out quickly. Due to the overwhelming demand, Bahrain International Circuit announced the release of additional tickets for the event.
The darts competition takes place in the famous Dome Tent at Bahrain International Circuit, known for its exceptional hospitality and high-end arrangements for the tournament.
Additionally, the championship launched a costume contest, with a winner selected each night to win tickets to this year’s World Darts Championship at the historic Alexandra Palace in London.
