The Ministry of Education has confirmed its readiness to establish a centre for gifted students in the Southern Governorate whenever necessary and under priority construction plans and available resources.
This announcement comes in response to a proposal submitted by MP Ali Al Noaimi, which aims to create a dedicated centre for gifted students in the Southern Governorate. The ministry highlighted the existence of a "Centre for Gifted Students" operating under its supervision, which provides comprehensive care for talented students from various governorates in Bahrain. This centre, as per the ministry's response, caters to students enrolled in both public and private schools across all educational stages, focusing on nurturing their academic and performance-related talents after identifying and registering them.
The centre offers ongoing support for gifted students through a variety of specialised programmes and initiatives, including raising awareness about the importance of nurturing gifted students in schools, providing lectures, training courses, and workshops for educational and administrative staff to identify these talents at different educational levels, collaborating with all official and community organisations to develop students' intellectual and mental capacities and publicise their achievements, and implementing a series of enriching workshops and courses, both in the morning and evening, along with field visits to public and private schools across the kingdom.
The ministry further noted that the centre employs approximately 250 teachers, assigned by school administrations to coordinate the committees for gifted students in both public and private schools.
"This team includes specialists in mental giftedness, facilitating a communication link between these schools and the centre to provide educational services to a broader segment of talented students from various educational stages throughout the Kingdom,"
The Services Committee of the House of Representatives has reviewed the proposal and recommended its approval, paving the way for further development in nurturing the talents of Bahrain’s gifted youth. The House of Representatives will discuss and vote on the proposal next Tuesday.
