The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has launched a groundbreaking service enabling Bahraini citizens residing abroad to apply for birth certificates for their newborns through the National Portal, bahrain.bh. This initiative simplifies the process, allowing users to complete applications from anywhere in the world.
A Commitment to Digital Transformation
Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, CEO of the iGA, emphasized that this service aligns with the Kingdom's vision for digital transformation, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. "Our aim is to enhance the quality of government services, making them more accessible and user-friendly," Al Qaed stated. He highlighted that the development of the electronic birth registration system is an ongoing effort, under the guidance of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communications Technology, chaired by His Excellency Lieutenant-General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior.
Seamless Service for Citizens Abroad
Dr. Issa Nasser Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary for Consular and Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called the service a milestone in enhancing Bahrain’s consular services. "This initiative underscores our dedication to supporting Bahraini citizens wherever they are, ensuring they can efficiently complete vital procedures, like obtaining a birth certificate, at their convenience," Dr. Al Nuaimi said.
He also reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to setting global standards in consular services, reflecting Bahrain’s leadership in digital transformation and strengthening citizen trust in government processes.
How It Works
The streamlined service involves notifying the nearest Bahraini embassy or consulate of the birth and providing the hospital’s notification. Using the advanced level of Bahrain’s eKey system, parents can log into the National Portal, enter the birth notification number, the newborn’s personal number, and other required information to complete the process.
This service is part of a broader suite of electronic birth certificate solutions available to citizens and residents, including reissuance for lost or damaged certificates, amendments through court orders, and managing prior applications.
A Step Toward Excellence
This innovative solution highlights Bahrain's forward-thinking approach to public service, aiming to improve the quality of life for its citizens at home and abroad. By simplifying essential procedures, Bahrain reaffirms its commitment to being a leader in digital services and supporting its global community.
