The Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, His Excellency Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety of animal products, thereby promoting consumer health. This initiative also establishes a legal framework to streamline licensing processes for related facilities while ensuring compliance with regulations and laws.
His Excellency highlighted the recent issuance of Decision No. 141 of 2024, which specifies the requirements and standards for licensing animal production facilities. This decision mandates that such facilities obtain official permits by meeting technical and environmental criteria that prioritize consumer health and environmental protection. The regulation reflects the ministry’s dedication to advancing the animal production sector, ensuring sustainability, and improving the quality and safety of animal products. Additionally, it aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to adhering to environmental and health standards recognized across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
The minister also pointed out the decision's role in developing Bahrain’s livestock sector, enhancing production quality, and supporting the Kingdom's broader vision of achieving food security while positioning Bahrain as a regional hub for livestock trade.
It is noteworthy that the decision sets specific space requirements for animals within production facilities. For example, poultry farms must provide a minimum of 1,000 square meters per coop. The regulation also includes specifications for dairy and meat production facilities, ensuring compliance with GCC Animal Welfare Law No. 52 of 2014, which underscores the importance of animal welfare and sustainable practices.
