Consumers may no longer face extra charges for warranty and maintenance services on imported cars after Parliament approved a proposal to require agents to provide these services at no additional cost. The measure was pushed by MPs Khalid Buanaq, Hesham Al Awadhi, Ahmed Qarata, Mohammed Al Ma’arafi, and Zainab AbdulAmeer.
The push aims to protect buyers and bring local after-sales practices into line with international standards, ensuring fairness for car owners while boosting trust in Bahrain’s automotive market. The explanatory notes supporting the proposal stresses the importance of addressing consumer concerns.
‘People should have the right to proper warranty and maintenance services without being forced to pay extra,’ the memorandum states. ‘This is especially true for issues caused by manufacturing faults or covered by the agent’s warranty. The proposal ensures fairness and shields consumers from unnecessary financial burdens.’
The MPs behind the measure argue that removing these costs will make imported cars a more attractive option for Bahrainis. By easing buyer worries about unplanned expenses, the proposal aims to encourage confidence in purchases and support the broader car market.
‘Requiring agents to deliver these services free of charge promotes honesty in the market and strengthens trust between consumers and agents,’ the memorandum adds. ‘This is about creating a fairer, more transparent system that works for everyone.’
