Bahrain is intensifying its efforts to attract tourists from five primary markets: the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the United Kingdom, China, India, and Germany. This strategic focus was highlighted by Sara Ahmed Buheji, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism Authority (BTEA), in an interview with Sky News Arabia during the World Economic Forum in Davos 2025.
Buheji stressed that tourism is a vital component of Bahrain's non-oil sector, with the Kingdom aiming to increase tourism's contribution to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The country has launched a tourism strategy that spans from 2022 to 2026, with the ambitious goal of welcoming 14 million tourists by the end of this period and increasing the sector's GDP contribution to approximately 11.6%.
"We are certainly promoting Bahraini tourism globally, but we are concentrating on these five key markets to boost the number of tourists coming to the Kingdom. We are marketing Bahrain as an integrated destination alongside GCC countries, which will enhance visitor numbers and increase the length of their stay," Buheji stated.
The CEO also pointed out that Bahrain boasts a robust tourism infrastructure, positioning it well to attract more visitors. "The Kingdom's diverse tourism offerings include rich cultural and artistic activities, as well as distinctive maritime attractions, all of which are currently being emphasised," she explained.
It's worth noting that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected a 3% growth in Bahrain's economy for the previous year, remaining unchanged from 2023, with expectations of an increase to approximately 3.5% in 2025, according to the IMF’s Executive Board statement following the conclusion of its Article IV consultations for 2024, published last December.
