The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications announced that the number of public bus users in the Kingdom of Bahrain has exceeded 100 million since February 2015, a period of 10 years.

According to official statistics, the daily average number of passengers last December exceeded 33,000, with a total of over one million passengers during that month.

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications operates the public transportation service 24/7, owning a fleet of 140 buses operating on 26 routes and serving over 600 stations daily across all governorates and regions of the Kingdom.

The buses feature low floors and driver-controlled ramps to facilitate movement for all passengers, including those with limited mobility and passengers with strollers. All buses have priority seating for women, families, senior citizens, and wheelchair users, as well as free Wi-Fi, information displays, security cameras, and wheelchair accessibility features.

The Ministry previously confirmed its collaboration with the operating company to develop strategic plans to encourage citizens to use public transport, aiming for sustainable transportation in the Kingdom.

These plans aim to provide a superior alternative to private vehicles, offering a high-quality and efficient transportation mode that meets user needs. Bus stops are strategically located near residential areas, commercial centres, and healthcare facilities to reach diverse segments of the population and provide clear and accessible routes.

The Ministry, in collaboration with the Bahrain Public Transportation Company, conducts regular comprehensive studies of public transport routes to evaluate service quality and review all requests submitted by public transport users, municipal councils, and other entities.
