MP Mohammed Al Ahmed has officially submitted a legislative proposal aimed at granting valuable early retirement rights to one parent of a child with severe disabilities. This important proposal seeks to amend the existing Social Insurance Law, which was established by Decree-Law No. 24 of 1976.
The amendment would introduce a new article specifically designed to empower the Minister of Finance to issue the necessary regulations that would facilitate this early retirement option for eligible parents.
In the explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal, MP Al Ahmed stressed that this amendment is fundamentally intended to provide much-needed support to families who are dedicated to caring for individuals with severe disabilities.
He pointed out that, all too often, one parent bears the full weight of caregiving responsibilities, which can be incredibly demanding both physically and emotionally. "The proposal aims to ensure that one parent can opt for early retirement, thereby providing a stable family environment and appropriate care for the disabled child," he explained to the Daily Tribune.
He further elaborated on the broader implications of the proposal, stating, "This legislative initiative reflects a growing acknowledgment of the challenges faced by families of individuals with disabilities and seeks to provide them with vital support and resources. If adopted, it could significantly improve the quality of life for both parents and their children with disabilities," he stated.
The responsibility for issuing decisions to regulate this process will rest with the Minister of Finance.
