Education minister lauds "Arab Reading Challenge"
Education Minister, Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, received Najlaa Al-Shamsi the Secretary-General of "Arab Reading Challenge" (ARC) launched by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to encourage students in the Arab world to read more than fifty million books within one school year.
Dr. Al Nuaimi was briefed about the method of participation and competition phases of this challenge at the school and governorate levels in Arab countries to culminate in the final round in Dubai.
The minister praised this initiative aimed to spread the culture of awareness about the importance of reading in students and to boost their linguistic skills and capacity for expression, affirming the ministry's appreciation of this initiative which will result in positive impact on readership in Arab countries. The minister reaffirmed the ministry's attentiveness to the Arabic language as stipulated in the Kingdom of Bahrain's Constitution and the Law of Education, as it reinforces the national identity hence its spread and use among the student population has been given paramount importance in the curricula and extracurricular activities.
The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Bahrain, Abdel Ridha Abdullah Al Khoury, and several officials in the ministry attended the meeting.
