On the 76th Republic Day of India, Rajib Roy, a senior engineer at Bapco Refining and member of Bongiyo Samaj Bahrain, shared an impassioned message on the importance of preserving and passing down India’s rich cultural legacy. He emphasised the role of parents in inspiring curiosity among children about India’s history, heritage, and mythology.
"Strong ownership and collective commitment are vital for preserving India’s legacy," Roy remarked, urging parents to encourage activities like reading epics such as the Ramayan and Mahabharat, watching historical documentaries, and immersing children in classical dance, folk music, and regional art forms. Such exposure, he explained, helps future generations understand their grassroots and embrace their identity as proud Indians, even while living overseas.
True Celebration
Roy called on the Indian diaspora to celebrate their heritage not just on Republic Day but every day of the year. For him, true celebration goes beyond festivities, encompassing meaningful contributions to India’s progress. "Let us uplift diverse communities and support underprivileged people in India through education, healthcare, and environmental conservation," he urged.
Living in Bahrain, he noted, is no barrier to supporting impactful causes back home. Small, individual efforts, he said, can collectively shape a brighter future for India.
Global Representation
Roy also highlighted the importance of representing India’s culture and heritage with dignity as global citizens. By being respectful, open-minded, and inclusive, the Indian diaspora can project the nation’s values on an international stage.
"Small actions may seem insignificant, but when combined, they create a lasting impact," Roy reflected, urging all Indians abroad to contribute to the vision of a stronger, more inclusive India.
His message was a powerful reminder of the responsibility and pride that come with being Indian, no matter where in the world one resides.
