India’s cultural heritage and development remain deeply intertwined, shaping its identity on the global stage. On the 76th Republic Day, Amarnath Rai, President of Kannada Sangha, reflected on the theme "Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas" (Golden India: Heritage and Development), which highlights the seamless connection between India’s traditions and progress.
"Our diverse languages, art forms, philosophies, and religions have not only defined our national identity but also inspired and fascinated the world," said Mr. Rai. He noted that India’s cultural richness, combined with its commitment to dialogue and exchange, has enhanced its global standing and strengthened ties with nations, including Bahrain.
Global Insights
Mr. Rai highlighted India’s development journey as a source of inspiration for other nations. "Our focus on inclusive growth, harnessing the potential of our youthful population, and leveraging technology to bridge divides are lessons that resonate worldwide," he remarked.
India’s ability to balance economic progress with social equity and environmental sustainability was also emphasised as a model for nations aiming to achieve sustainable development goals.
Diaspora Pride
Addressing the Indian community in Bahrain, Mr. Rai expressed deep pride and gratitude. He praised their contributions to Bahrain’s economic and social landscape while preserving Indian heritage. "You are not just residents abroad; you are ambassadors of our legacy, excelling in your professions and fostering strong cultural and community ties," Mr. Rai said.
Preserving Identity
Mr. Rai stressed the importance of passing India’s rich cultural legacy to future generations living overseas. He called for initiatives such as teaching Indian languages in schools, organising cultural events and festivals, and using technology to connect younger generations with their roots.
He urged the diaspora to instil a strong sense of cultural identity in their children, ensuring India’s legacy continues to inspire and thrive globally.
As India celebrates its Republic Day, Mr. Rai’s message was a call to honour its heritage while embracing a vision of progress. The theme of "Swarnim Bharat" serves as a reminder of the responsibility to preserve and project India’s vibrant identity for generations to come.
