India’s cultural heritage serves as the cornerstone of its global identity, blending a legacy of diversity, tolerance, and creativity with modern progress. Speaking on the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day, Jyoti Eshwar, Assistant General Secretary of the Executive Committee, Navbharath Kannada, highlighted how ancient traditions like yoga, Ayurveda, and classical art forms resonate worldwide.
"India’s identity on the global stage is a unique narrative of blending ancient wisdom with modern innovation," Mrs. Eshwar remarked. She credited India’s robust democracy, technological advancements, and thriving economy for strengthening its image as a bridge between tradition and progress, positioning it as a soft power leader and a role model for sustainable, inclusive development.
Lessons for Nations
Reflecting on the theme ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’ (Golden India: Heritage and Development), Mrs. Eshwar emphasised how India’s journey offers valuable lessons for other nations, including Bahrain. She underscored the importance of balancing cultural preservation with modernization, particularly for countries with rich histories.
"India’s investments in education, community empowerment, and innovation provide a roadmap for multicultural societies seeking harmony and progress," Mrs. Eshwar noted, adding that the principle of unity in diversity deeply rooted in Indian culture is a model for nations striving for inclusivity.
Message to Diaspora
On Republic Day, Mrs. Eshwar conveyed a heartfelt message to the Indian community in Bahrain, urging them to honour the spirit of democracy and their cultural heritage. "This is a time to reflect on the deep connection to your roots and your role as ambassadors of India’s culture and achievements," she said.
Mrs. Eshwar encouraged the diaspora to continue contributing to the progress of Bahrain while staying connected to the ideals of resilience, unity, and pride that define India.
Preserving Legacy
To ensure that India’s rich legacy thrives among future generations living abroad, Mrs. Eshwar advocated for fostering cultural awareness. Initiatives such as community events, language classes, and festivals were recommended as ways to engage younger generations with their roots.
"Encouraging participation in classical arts, yoga, and traditional crafts strengthens ties to India," Mrs. Eshwar explained. She called for collaboration between diaspora organisations and Indian cultural bodies to preserve and meaningfully evolve India’s heritage in a global context.
As India celebrates its 76th Republic Day, Mrs. Eshwar’s reflections highlight the timeless relevance of ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’, urging Indians at home and abroad to cherish their heritage while contributing to a shared vision of progress.
