Reports of reckless racing and late-night noise on the newly opened ring road have prompted the Muharraq Municipal Council to approve a proposal for installing speed cameras.

The plan, put forward by Sixth Constituency representative Fadhil Al Oud, comes amid growing concerns from residents about safety and noise disturbances.

Al Oud pointed out that the absence of speed checks on the road has given thrill-seekers a free pass to engage in dangerous driving. He also highlighted that Raya Highway’s bend has been a problem for Muharraq locals for years due to bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Sigh of Relief
While residents breathed a sigh of relief when the ring road opened earlier this month, the surge in dangerous driving and revved-up motors quickly disrupted that sense of calm.

Complaints have poured in from residents, many of whom have described the disturbances as unbearable. Some have reported young drivers treating the road like a racetrack, with loud sports cars and motorbikes disturbing their nights.

Immediate Action
Al Oud has called for immediate action to install speed cameras and radars, stating that this would not only deter reckless drivers but also improve safety and restore peace to the area.
