Astronomer Mohammed Redha Al-Asfoor has announced that the holy month of Ramadan is drawing closer, with Muslims worldwide eagerly anticipating its arrival. According to Al-Asfoor, the new moon of Sha’ban 1446 AH will be born on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 3:35 PM Bahrain local time. However, sighting the crescent moon that evening will not be possible in Bahrain as the moon will set at 5:14 PM, four minutes before sunset at 5:18 PM.

The astronomer clarified that the crescent will be visible the following day, Thursday, January 30, 2025. By then, the moon will be 25 hours and 43 minutes old at sunset. The sun will set at 5:19 PM, and the crescent moon will remain visible on the horizon until 6:20 PM, with 1.46% of the moon illuminated. Based on this data, Al-Asfoor confirmed that Friday, January 31, 2025, will mark the beginning of Sha’ban 1446 AH.

Looking ahead to Ramadan, Al-Asfoor noted that the crescent for Ramadan 1446 AH will be born on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 3:44 AM Bahrain local time. The start of Ramadan is expected to vary across countries depending on their geographic location and moon sighting conditions, with Saturday, March 1, 2025, likely marking the first day of Ramadan in many Arab and Islamic nations.

He added that approximately two-thirds of this year’s Ramadan will occur during winter, with the final third transitioning into spring, which begins on March 20, 2025.

Muslims worldwide are preparing for the spiritual significance and blessings of the holy month, as the countdown to Ramadan 1446 AH begins.
