Nibras Talib, CEO of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, welcomed an Omani delegation led by Dr. Ahmed bin Talib Al Jabri, Deputy Chairman of Oman’s National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. The meeting focused on Bahrain’s extensive efforts to combat human trafficking and enhance the labour environment to ensure market stability.

During the meeting, the CEO highlighted the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Bahrain and Oman during His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s state visit to Oman. The agreement aims to bolster cooperation in anti-trafficking efforts, enhance national capacities through the exchange of knowledge, and coordinate training programmes to address this pressing issue.

Talib elaborated on Bahrain’s pioneering initiatives, such as the implementation of International Bank Account Numbers (IBAN) for expatriate workers, the development of the Wage Protection System, and the establishment of the National Referral System. These measures create a cohesive framework linking government and non-government entities to streamline efforts against human trafficking.

The Omani delegation visited Bahrain’s Expat Protection Centre, the first comprehensive facility of its kind in the Middle East. The centre offers a wide range of services, including preventive measures, legal assistance, and shelter for trafficking victims. The delegation also toured the Regional Training Centre, which is dedicated to capacity-building and providing specialised training on anti-human trafficking.

Talib reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to sharing its expertise, offering training, and supporting Oman and other Gulf countries in their fight against human trafficking. He emphasised Bahrain’s readiness to collaborate regionally to address this global issue.

The Omani delegation expressed admiration for Bahrain’s achievements and voiced their eagerness to enhance bilateral cooperation and knowledge exchange to strengthen anti-trafficking efforts in the region.
