Parliament has hit the brakes on a push for tighter rules around delivery motorcycles after MP Maryam Al Dhaen was unable to attend yesterday’s session due to a sudden health issue that saw her hospitalised.
Al Dhaen had introduced the proposal back in September 2023, calling for action on frequent traffic violations by some delivery riders.
The plan also aims to bring in stricter hygiene measures for the food boxes strapped to these motorcycles, raising concerns over safety on the road and health risks for customers.
The discussion will be revisited once Al Dhaen returns to Parliament, where her work in addressing these concerns will resume.
