A notorious Bahraini drug trafficker, released from a decade-long prison sentence just months ago, is back behind bars—this time facing life imprisonment. The 32-year-old, convicted in 2012 for drug peddling, seemingly learned nothing from his time incarcerated, returning to his life of crime with a vengeance. His brazen relapse has resulted in a far harsher punishment than his previous 10-year sentence as well as BD10,000 fine.
The man had served his time for a previous conviction on drug trafficking charges. His release, marking the end of his twenties spent behind bars, was short-lived. He quickly resumed his illegal activities, demonstrating a shocking disregard for the law and a complete lack of remorse.
As per the court files, the defendant used WhatsApp to contact Asian suppliers who used water meters as "dead drops" for narcotics shipments. He admitted to successfully retrieving these shipments three times. Prosecutors claimed during the course of the trial that the 32-year-old man meticulously repackaged the drugs into smaller quantities for distribution, receiving payment through BenefitPay or cash couriers.
Two-day Search
"We have received a tip-off that he returned back to business, selling drugs. Therefore, we have obtained arrest and search warrants in order to nab him," a police officer told judges during the trial. "We saw him entering his vehicle, and we immediately arrested him," he added. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a cache of drugs, paraphernalia—including syringes and a drug-stained pair of scissors—and BD25 in cash, believed to be proceeds from his illegal trade.
It took detectives two days to fully uncover all the illegal material in the defendant's possession. "We received new intelligence the previous evening indicating that the defendant was hiding additional drugs in an outdoor kitchen," the officer explained. "We therefore returned to his residence and discovered more drugs and paraphernalia there the following day."
