Sri Lanka marked its 77th Independence Day with a grand celebration at the Grand Swiss-Belhotel Waterfront, Seef, Bahrain, emphasizing its strong bilateral ties with the Kingdom. The event showcased the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, highlighting their historical connections and future cooperation.
Sri Lanka, an island nation with a history spanning over 2,500 years, has long been known for its resilience, adaptability, and strong diplomatic engagements. From its ancient trade links with Middle Eastern merchants to its post-independence journey as a progressive nation, Sri Lanka has consistently built bridges of cooperation. Its ability to foster strong partnerships continues to inspire a promising future.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Isa Nasser Al Noaimi, Undersecretary for Consular and Administrative Affairs, underscored the significance of the Sri Lanka-Bahrain relationship, calling it “unforgettable.” He acknowledged the crucial role played by the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain in strengthening diplomacy and contributing to the Kingdom’s society.
“The Sri Lankan expatriate community plays a pivotal role in Bahrain, not just through their economic contributions but also by fostering cultural and diplomatic ties. Building trust and creating opportunities will continue to be our focus, and this reception paves the way for new avenues of cooperation between our countries,” stated Dr. Al Noaimi.
Speaking to The Daily Tribune, Madhuka Harshani Silva, Charge d’Affaires of Sri Lanka to Bahrain, highlighted the rich historical ties between Sri Lanka and Bahrain. She emphasized the significance of celebrating 77 years of independence, noting the resilience and commitment of Sri Lankans toward shaping a promising future.
“This Independence Day is a remarkable milestone for Sri Lankans, as it symbolizes our journey of resilience and progress. As part of the Sri Lankan government’s ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative, we plan to reach out to the Sri Lankan community abroad to get support for upcoming projects, particularly in infrastructure development,” Silva said.
The “Clean Sri Lanka” project, aimed at enhancing the country’s environmental and infrastructural landscape, is a key initiative driving Sri Lanka’s sustainable development goals. The Sri Lankan mission in Bahrain is expected to collaborate with the expatriate community to support and implement these initiatives soon.
The event was attended by dignitaries, diplomats, and members of the Sri Lankan community, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stronger bilateral relations.
