An obstacle that caused severe problems for fishermen and the marine environment has now been successfully addressed with the removal of the sandstone bridge at Abu Subh beach which was there for 20 years ago.

Member of the Northern Municipal Council Basem Ali Abuidrees revealed to The Daily Tribune that this significant environmental project has greatly improved the marine ecosystem and facilitated access for both fishermen and beachgoers seeking to enjoy the coast.

“The success of this project has contributed to improving the marine environment and facilitating the movement of fishermen and visitors who come to the beach for swimming. The bridge had divided the sea, leading to changes that disrupted the marine ecosystem. Its removal will help restore this system to its natural balance,” he said.

He added, “This sandstone bridge posed an obstacle for fishermen and made it difficult for them to navigate. Its removal will significantly improve fishing pathways and ease the movement of fishermen, which will positively impact their work.”

He also pointed out, “The bridge represented a danger for beachgoers due to its complex design and its unsuitability for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.”

He clarified that eliminating it will help reduce accidents and eliminate associated risks. Abuidrees highlighted that the sandstone bridge had marred the aesthetic appearance of the waterfront and the overall view of the coast.
