10-year jail in drug case

The High Criminal Court has sentenced a Bahraini man to 10 years in prison in a drug-peddling case. He was also fined BD5,000.

Standing trial in the case was a second Bahraini man, but he was given only two years in prison after the court awarded him for helping police arrest the first defendant by dropping the charge of selling drugs.

The second Bahraini man was initially arrested after an undercover police officer lured him to sell hashish to him for BD350. But he told the police officers that he was selling drugs in favour of the first defendant and offered to help them arrest him.

He was later arrested in a sting operation after the second defendant contacted him, requesting to buy drugs from him.
