The High Criminal Court has sentenced a 31-yearold Arab woman to one year in prison followed by deportation after she assaulted a policewoman and refused to leave a hotel apartment building’s reception area.
The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with assaulting a member of a policewoman while she was on duty.
The assault resulted in injuries documented in a medical report, though not serious enough to cause long-term disability.
Additional charges included verbally abusing the officer and damaging property belonging to the hotel apartments.
According to testimony from the victim policewoman, she responded to a call about the defendant’s disruptive behaviour in a building in the Seef District.
Lamp
Upon arrival, the defendant refused to cooperate, shouted at the officer, and threw a lamp at her.
“I used pepper spray to subdue her, but she pushed me, took off my headscarf and pulled my hair,” the officer added.
The building manager confirmed this account, stating that he had received a call about a woman refusing to leave the reception area and sleeping there.
Call
“I attempted to persuade her to leave but was unsuccessful, prompting me to call the police,” he said.
The Public Prosecution noted that the defendant admitted to assaulting and verbally abusing the police officer.
The court’s decision includes a one-year prison sentence followed by immediate deportation upon completion of the sentence.
