Transit surge drives Bahrain Airport to 13.9m passengers in 2024

Bahrain International Airport had a busy year in 2024, with more than 13 million passengers passing through its terminals.
Official figures from Civil Aviation Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, published on the Bahrain Open Data Platform, show a solid rise in air traffic, cargo, and passenger numbers.
Passenger traffic climbed to 13,970,201 in 2024, up from 13,309,207 the year before.
Arrivals totalled 4,719,438, while 4,611,135 passengers flew out of the country.
Transit passengers
The biggest change came from transit passengers, with numbers surging to 20,007, compared to just 6,057 in 2023.
Transfer passengers reached 4,619,621 over the year.
Planes were coming and going more often too.
Flights Aircraft movements rose by 8.4 per cent, with 101,534 flights recorded — 50,745 incoming and 50,789 departing.
That’s an increase from 93,648 flights in 2023, when 46,804 planes landed and 46,844 took off.
Air freight saw a steady flow through Bahrain International Airport, with 151,205 tonnes of incoming cargo, 93,688 tonnes of outgoing shipments, and 147,918 tonnes of transshipments recorded last year.
