Families in Louzi are still travelling further than they should for basic goods, with no shops or markets nearby, but a long-pending municipal request to register land for commercial use has finally been approved.
The government has confirmed that properties in the 12th constituency have been formally registered, paving the way for markets, shops, and parking spaces after a push from Northern Municipal Council member Zainab Al Durazi.
In its response to the council, the government stated that the registration process for service lands within the housing project had been completed following standard procedures.
Properties 4, 5, and 6 in Block 1020 have been allocated under the Government, with Eskan Bank named as the beneficiary.
The move, it said, is tied to plans for housing schemes, which include a kindergarten, a commercial building, and retail shops, following the approved layout and prior coordination with Eskan Bank.
Al Durazi, who represents the 12th constituency, said the decision was overdue and would help ease everyday struggles for residents.
“The area is packed with families, but there’s barely a shop or market nearby. People have to go much further than they should for everyday goods,” she said. “These plots hadn’t been registered before, and I’ve been following up with the Northern Municipal Council to get things moving.”
The housing project, which has been lived in since 2018, originally had 800 homes. That number grew when the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning teamed up with private developers three years ago, adding 133 more.
Expansion Al Durazi said some land classifications had also been altered as part of the expansion. She pointed out that the area needs more public spaces and local services.
