Long-time Hoora residents may soon see their homes rebuilt under a plan set to go before Parliament on Tuesday.

The proposal, backed by MPs Khalid Buanaq and Mohammed Janahi, calls for traditional-style housing to be constructed for families with deep roots in the area. The case for the plan is built on Hoora’s significance in Bahrain’s history. Once a tight-knit neighborhood and a hub of thought and culture, Hoora has witnessed changes in its demographic over the years.

Long waits for public housing have forced many locals to look elsewhere, shifting the area’s makeup. Old homes have given way to rows of apartment blocks, altering the streetscape and making it harder for people with family ties to stay.

The plan aims to address this by rebuilding traditional homes and offering families the opportunity to return to the area, thus reviving Hoora’s legacy. The proposal seeks to restore the neighborhood’s character while balancing newer development with traditional styles.

The land in question includes both old houses and apartment buildings of varying types. Work is underway to weigh the challenges and opportunities of combining different property types. Studies have flagged a few sticking points, including traffic flow and road access, as well as questions about the layout of the area.

There are ongoing discussions about how best to preserve the district’s old character while accommodating new development. The Housing and Urban Planning Ministry has indicated that it is pressing ahead with projects to provide low-income housing, further reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving the area.

The proposal reflects a push for both modern solutions and the preservation of Hoora’s historical legacy, with the hope of benefiting long-time residents who have watched the neighborhood evolve over the years.
