The Clock Roundabout is set for redevelopment into a multi-level junction linking Shaikh Salman Highway and Al Riffa Avenue. Design work is currently in progress, with construction set to follow once approvals from all service authorities are in place.
This project is part of a broader road upgrade initiative, which includes widening Al Riffa Avenue to four lanes in each direction and improving its junctions. The government has already sought consultants for the work, with bidding closing in January.
Plans also include the construction of new pedestrian bridges, wider footpaths, drainage improvements, underground service ducts, updated lighting, and better road signage.
The Minister of Works, His Excellency Ebrahim Al Hawaj, responding to a parliamentary question from MP Mohammed Mousa, said the aim of the project is to ease traffic flow and improve safety.
“The ministry is carrying out projects across all governorates to serve the public,” he added. Funding has been earmarked for design work, but the total cost is yet to be confirmed. “Once a detailed plan is finalized, we’ll have a clearer idea of the budget,” Al Hawaj explained.
The timeline for completion depends on required approvals and procedures. "Design work should wrap up by 2026, and after that, the project will be put out to tender for construction,” he said.
In his letter to Parliament, Al Hawaj added that the ministry would continue working with MPs to advance roadworks that improve conditions for both drivers and pedestrians.
