Phantom employees, fake records, and forged documents — a group of business owners allegedly manipulated the Social Insurance Organisation’s system to claim benefits they weren’t owed, the Public Prosecution announced yesterday.

Authorities accuse the suspects of feeding false details into the system to register and deregister non-existent employees, creating bogus work histories that unlocked retirement pensions, lump-sum payouts, and unemployment benefits.

Some also forged documents to pocket wage support funds meant for real workers.

The Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Prosecution launched an inquiry after a report from the Social Insurance Organisation.

Statements were taken from officials at the organisation, Tamkeen, and the Ministry of Labour.

Prosecutors slapped travel bans on the suspects, froze their accounts and assets, and brought in an anti-corruption unit to dig deeper.

A forensic expert was assigned to examine documents and contracts tied to the case.
