Bahrain's Commitment to Advancing Healthcare: A Vision for Excellence

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to the ongoing development of the healthcare sector. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality and efficiency of therapeutic services while ensuring their sustainability, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
During a meeting today, attended by His Excellency Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, and Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayyed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, HRH Prince Salman met with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). He praised the fruitful and continuous collaboration between Bahrain and the WHO, which has contributed to tangible achievements in the healthcare sector at both local and international levels.
HRH Prince Salman highlighted Bahrain's ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships with leading global health organizations. These partnerships aim to build qualified national healthcare personnel and elevate the standard of health services, ensuring the health and safety of all citizens.
The meeting also addressed various topics related to the medical sector, including a historic medical achievement in Bahrain: the successful treatment of a patient with sickle cell anemia through gene editing technology, CRISPR, making this individual the first person outside the United States to receive this innovative treatment. HRH Prince Salman stated that achieving the strategic goals of the healthcare sector requires diligent work and perseverance, supported by well-studied plans and a comprehensive scientific approach.
He emphasized the importance of pursuing new horizons of excellence and leadership, particularly by enhancing collaboration with international health institutions, including the WHO, to deliver innovative solutions that contribute to strategic health objectives and bolster Bahrain's position as a leading healthcare center in the region.
In response, the WHO Director-General expressed his appreciation for HRH Prince Salman's dedication to supporting and enhancing cooperation between Bahrain and the organization. He affirmed that these efforts significantly contribute to achieving shared health goals, wishing Bahrain continued progress and prosperity in its developmental journey.
