WHO Chief Visits Bahrain, Praises Kingdom’s Healthcare Initiatives

His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received His Excellency Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), at the ministry's headquarters today. The meeting was attended by Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, as part of Dr. Ghebreyesus’ visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

During the meeting, Minister Al Zayani welcomed the WHO Director-General and reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with the organization to achieve sustainable development goals. He praised the WHO’s efforts in promoting global health and safety, highlighting Bahrain’s latest health initiative, which was introduced at the Arab Summit in May 2024. The initiative aims to provide healthcare services to those affected by conflicts and crises in the region.

Dr. Ghebreyesus expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and commended Bahrain’s continuous efforts in enhancing its healthcare system to provide high-quality services to citizens and residents.

He also lauded Bahrain’s initiative presented at the Arab Summit, emphasizing its noble objectives in ensuring access to healthcare, treatment, and medication for those impacted by conflicts. He reaffirmed WHO’s commitment to supporting Bahrain’s efforts in achieving these goals and extended his best wishes for the Kingdom’s continued progress and prosperity.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Lulwa Rashid Showaiter, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health; Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations; and Mr. Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem, Head of the Organizations Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
