Walls crumbling, rats scuttling, and fires breaking out — MP Hamad Al Doy and municipal council member Dalal Al Moqahwi are pressing for a task force to track and deal with derelict homes in Muharraq before the risks grow.

They raised the matter during recent visits to affected areas, arguing that the buildings pose a danger to passers-by and could be misused for unlawful activities. They also pointed to growing complaints from residents about vermin and filth gathering around the sites.

Al Doy and Al Moqahwi proposed forming a task force made up of representatives from Muharraq Governorate, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), Muharraq Municipal Council, the Survey and Land Registration Bureau, Muharraq Police, the Ministry of Health, Civil Defence, and Muharraq Municipality’s sanitation and inspection teams.

They argued that pulling these bodies together would allow quicker action to reduce hazards and stop more buildings from falling into disrepair.
