The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) has officially declared that the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1446 AH will commence on Saturday, March 1, 2025. This announcement was made in a statement issued by the Sharia Sighting Authority following their deliberations this evening.
The council’s statement began with praises to Allah and acknowledged the significance of Ramadan as the month in which the Qur’an was revealed, serving as guidance for mankind. The council reaffirmed that the determination of Ramadan’s start is based on either the sighting of the crescent moon or the completion of 30 days of the preceding month, Sha’ban.
According to the SCIA, the beginning of Sha’ban for 1446 AH fell on Friday, January 31, 2025, based on Bahraini and other recognized calendars. The Sharia Sighting Committee, comprising esteemed scholars Sheikh Adnan bin Abdullah Al-Qattan, Sheikh Dr. Fareed bin Yaqoub Al-Muftah, Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim bin Rashid Al-Muraikhi, and Sheikh Rashid bin Hassan Al-Buainain, convened on the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025. The committee determined that although no local testimonies were recorded, the crescent moon of Ramadan was legally confirmed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the testimony of multiple credible witnesses. In accordance with this, Bahrain has officially declared the following day, March 1, as the first day of fasting.
On this auspicious occasion, the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs extended its heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the royal family, and the people of Bahrain. The council also conveyed warm greetings to the Arab and Islamic world, praying for a month filled with blessings, prosperity, and unity for all Muslims.
The SCIA emphasized the spiritual significance of Ramadan, urging believers to engage in fasting, prayer, and good deeds during this sacred month. The council expressed hopes for peace and unity among Muslims worldwide and prayed for divine blessings upon all those observing Ramadan.
The month of Ramadan holds deep religious importance, marking a time of fasting from dawn to sunset, increased devotion, and acts of charity. Muslims across Bahrain and around the world will commence their fasts on Saturday, seeking spiritual growth and closeness to God.
The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs concluded its statement with prayers for success, guidance, and acceptance of worship during this holy month. The council also reminded the faithful of the importance of adhering to religious obligations and maintaining the spirit of Ramadan through acts of kindness and devotion.
As Bahrain prepares to welcome Ramadan, the nation joins millions of Muslims worldwide in embracing this period of reflection, piety, and gratitude. Ramadan Mubarak!
