A court has awarded BD 3,000 in compensation to a woman who suffered a permanent shoulder injury in a traffic accident, following a lawsuit filed by her family against the driver.
The court ruled that the driver and the insurance company must jointly pay BD 3,000 to the Minors’ Funds Directorate, along with BD 90 for medical assessments and BD 10 for translation costs. Additionally, they were ordered to pay BD 1,000 to the remaining claimants, plus court costs and BD 100 in legal fees.
The driver, who was initially fined BD 100, was accused of losing control and crashing into the victim’s vehicle in another lane. The victim’s family argued that their car was struck while traveling in its proper lane, resulting in serious injuries.
Lawyer Bayan Makki, representing five claimants and the Minors’ Funds Directorate, stated that they had sought BD 4,000 in damages. Medical reports confirmed that one of the victims had suffered a fractured humerus and a 7% permanent disability.
The insurance company contested the lawsuit, but court documents included an accident report and a ruling from the Directorate of Military Justice, which found the driver guilty of causing the crash. This established a direct link between his actions and the injuries sustained by the claimants.
