The Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women’s Empowerment continues to draw global attention, reflecting its expanding reach and the diverse initiatives it supports. Launched to highlight success stories in advancing women’s roles, the award recognizes individuals and institutions making a tangible impact on gender equality worldwide.

On March 11, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality (UN Women), in partnership with Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Women, will announce the launch of the award’s third edition during the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York. This milestone builds on insights gained from previous editions and strengthens Bahrain’s leadership in gender advocacy.

The announcement follows International Women’s Day (March 8), a global occasion celebrating women’s achievements and pushing for gender equality. The timing reinforces the award’s mission to drive real change, acknowledging efforts that uplift women and create inclusive opportunities worldwide.

Originally established as a national initiative, the award was expanded globally in 2018 to align with international best practices. It serves as a benchmark for empowering women in the public and private sectors, civil society, and individual leadership roles.

With cash prizes totaling $400,000 across four categories, the award promotes policies that bridge gender gaps, enhance women’s participation in leadership, and support sustainable empowerment initiatives. It also aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and encourages innovative solutions to improve women’s social and economic standing worldwide.

The initiative underscores Bahrain’s commitment to fostering women’s leadership and ensuring equal opportunities on a global scale.
