New land subdivisions have been temporarily blocked in areas without proper infrastructure under a decision issued by Housing and Urban Planning Minister, Her Excellency Amna Al Rumaihi.

The restriction, covering about two-thirds of the country, will remain in place until those areas are deemed suitable for development.

The decision applies to villages and cities where roads, drainage, electricity, or other key services are missing, incomplete, or unable to support additional plots.

It is based on zoning maps issued with the resolution.

A map of Bahrain included in the decision outlines the af- fected areas, which span a large portion of country’s landmass.

Resolution

According to the resolution, published in the latest issue of the Official Gazette, the restriction will be lifted once the conditions that led to its introduction no longer apply.

A ministerial decision will be required, based on a detailed report prepared by the relevant authority.

The Urban Planning and Development Authority, working with service providers, will review zoning maps every three months.

Process This process includes gathering updated maps, reports, and figures from other agencies.

The maps will be revised when needed, and any updates will be made available on the authority’s website.

The decision does not affect subdivision requests lodged before the resolution came into effect, provided they meet the conditions for initial approval.
