Applied Science University Celebrates Renewed Partnership with London South Bank University
In a landmark event, Applied Science University (ASU) celebrated the renewal of its Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with London South Bank University (LSBU), affirming a decade-long partnership that has significantly impacted the educational landscape in the Middle East.
The ceremony was graced by dignitaries from both institutions, including Professor Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at ASU; Professor David Phoenix, Vice-Chancellor of London South Bank University and CEO of LSBU Group; Professor Hatem Masri, President of ASU; Professor Deborah Johnston, Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Stuart Bannerman, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor, International, LSBU Global; and Abdulla W. Al Khaja, Advisor to the President for Follow-up Affairs and Director of the Administration and Finance Directorate at ASU.
The renewed MoC underscores a mutual commitment to fostering high-quality education, research, and student mobility. This collaboration has been instrumental in offering dual-award programmes in key areas such as Law, Engineering, and Business Management, enabling students from Bahrain and the region to enhance their careers and academic prospects.
During the visit, the parties agreed to deepen their collaboration further by introducing postgraduate programmes tailored to meet local and regional market demands. These programmes aim to equip Bahraini and regional students with advanced skills and knowledge in response to evolving industry needs.
ASU and LSBU have celebrated many successes over the past ten years, with numerous students graduating with an LSBU award. These graduates are now making significant contributions to their fields and playing pivotal roles in regional development.
The event also served as an opportunity to express gratitude to key figures from LSBU who have been instrumental in nurturing this partnership. Special thanks were extended to Professor David Phoenix for his leadership, Professor Deborah Johnston, and the team from LSBU Global—Stuart Bannerman, Mandy Maidment, Darren James-Mitchell, and Ian Govender—for their relentless support and dedication to this collaborative endeavour.
ASU remains committed to advancing this fruitful partnership, continually seeking ways to innovate and expand educational opportunities that align with global standards and local needs, thereby reinforcing its position as a leader in international education.
