Muharraq Municipal Council has urged authorities to speed up the next phase of the Rayya Highway redevelopment while agreeing to keep its curve intact, warning that removing it could clog traffic heading towards Busaiteen.

In its meeting yesterday, Council member Fadhil Al Oud, who made the case for keeping the curve, said the new stretch of road was already too narrow.

Removing the bend, he warned, would turn the route into a bottleneck and worsen congestion.

“The road was meant to ease movement, but if the layout is changed carelessly, we risk making things worse,” he said.

The council also approved a move to relocate water meters from the ground to the walls of houses in Muharraq’s second constituency.

Council member Dalal Al Moqahwi said the step would make maintenance easier and reduce damage caused by weather and dirt.

“Meters on the ground wear out faster and can be a hazard, especially for children and older people,” she said.

Moving them to walls, she added, would help authorities take readings more efficiently.
